Managing Users
With webtreepro, you can create unlimited users and logins to support all the administrators, contributors and privileged viewers you need. Along with users, you can create any number of roles and assign permissions to them. This way, each time you add a user, you don't need to dole out their individual privileges--just assign them to the right role and they're good to go!
Three Primary Types
Although you can create a nearly infinite combination of permissions with webtreepro's Role function, there are nearly always three types of users:
|
Administrators |
These are the people that can setup new sites, new users, create roles and assign permissions. They typically will also have all the privileges that all the others users have as well. |
|
Contributors |
These people are typically limited to adding, deleting or editing content, and may or may not have the permission to add pages as well. There are special contributors that may be limited to working on a single page, or even a single piece of content. |
|
Privileged Visitors |
These people have no ability to add, delete, change or otherwise affect the content on the site. What they do have is the ability to log in to see content that was marked to be seen by their role. |
Roles and Permissions
When you create a role, you also assign a set of privileges or permissions to it. This determines what any user who has that role can do.
In the example to the right, the Content Editor is unable to add or delete and pages, but is allowed to change page settings, such as publish date or visibility.
On the other hand, any user in this role can add, delete or edit any content. It's possible to limit this further by selecting the Restrict to Own checkboxes--this means they can only edit or delete content that they have contributed (and cannot edit or delete any other content).
General or Specific
Using the Advanced Permissions, webtreepro can be instructed to allow increased access for a role on a single page. This lets you setup users that are in charge of a page or section of your site without opening up access to the entire site.
Just Add Users
Once you have a few roles established, you can add all the users you want or need. Simply enter a
few bits of information, select the role or roles for that user and once you save they are instantly able to begin working on your site. Why select multiple roles for a single user? Great question! By allowing you the flexibility to identify specific permissions per role, a user may combine the permissions of multiple roles to achieve the exact privileges that is desired without needing to add another role and without diluting the effectiveness of the original roles!

Adding a user takes about a minute--after saving, they're ready to begin working!
